The Peugeot 205 Turbo 16, a famous Group B machine that debuted in 1984, continued its winning streak into 1985!
With Vatanen and Salonen at the wheel, it won three races in a rowfrom the start of the season.
After that, Salonen recorded four consecutive wins in the middle ofthe season, boasting overwhelming strength and winning the double title.
However, the Lancia Delta S4 made its debut in the final race, theRAC.
Driving this promising machine, Toivonen and Alén showed incrediblespeed and monopolized 1st and 2nd place, raising expectations for the following season.
Also, this year Kankkunen won his first WRC victory in the Safari.

In 1986, Santos, driving a Ford RS200, crashed into a crowd in Portugal, and in Corse, Lancia's young ace Toivonen went off thecourse and fell to his death, causing a series of serious accidents.
Immediately after this, it was decided that Group B would beabolished that year.
It was a tragedy caused by a machine that was too fast.
The final Group B title was fiercely contested between Peugeot, withKankkunen/Salonen/Saby, and Lancia, with Alen/Biasion, who had lost their ace, but in the end, Peugeot successfully defended the titleat the 1000 Lakes.
The drivers' title was decided in the final race between Kankkunenand Alen, with Alen winning.
However, a week later, a ruling was made that the points fromSanremo were invalid, and Kankkunen made a comeback and became the champion for the first time.
This contains all 13 races of the final Group B season in 1986, inwhich Peugeot won the double title for the second consecutive year!
